Snow Day: a Few of my Favorite Things

Can't see my neighbor's house, aaah!

In the past, when snowplows didn't exist, people would have to stay wherever they were for at least one day whenever there was a snow storm or a big snowfall. Sometimes it happened while they were at school, the neighbor's or a family member's house. And while they were all gathered, spending quality time together and warming up by the chimney, they would keep each other entertained by singing folk songs or telling stories from their families and legends.

Times are a-changin'. Now, when the weather outside is frightful, there's dozens of snowplows in the streets as well as trucks that sprinkle salk to melt the ice, and everyone has winter tires on their car. But since I don't have to leave my house today, I'll pretend there's nothing I can do besides staying home until it stops snowing. And while I'm home alone, I might as well watch Home Alone, right?

Here are my favorite things to do on a snow day:

Wearing something warm and soft. Don't even try to convince, I will not wear pants! The best I can do on a snow day is upgrading from pajamas to this: sweatshirt, leggings, wool socks.

Watching Holiday movies (and eating advent calendar chocolate). I watch Home Alone, Edward Scissorhands, Elf, Christmas Vacation and the Grinch eeevery year! I don't think we ever get too old for these, just like I think advent calendars are for everyone. Especially if they're Lindt.

Pampering myself and trying new products. I ordered the four products on the left from Sephora on Black Friday and was given everything on the right! Left: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Pretty Boy, Boscia Blotting Linens, Murad Clarifying Wipes, Nars Blush in Orgasm.

Drinking warm, sweet, comforting drinks. Like this David's Tea's Chocolate Chili Chai. Yum!

Motorcycle jacket/denim vest

Motorcycle jacket: Topshop 'Maddox' Faux Leather Jacket // Denim jacket: H&M (old) // Dress: Urban Outfitters (old) // Boots: H&M // Clutch: H&M // Ring: Aldo // Stud earrings: somewhere in Amsterdam (these look identical)

Today is a motorcycle jacket/denim vest kind of day. I thought this would be a fun day-to-night outfit with a printed dress and cap toe boots. This will be my outfit both at work and at a friend's book launch party. If you happen to be a comic book fan who speaks French and live in Quebec City, check out Bulle in libraries. I got a sneak peak a while ago, and it's good stuff!

Sorry I did not update my blog this past week, its been the busiest week ever! I hope you're all having a nice day!

Get the look: Balmain F/W 12 RTW

If you're like me, when you saw how much maximalist baroque themed editorials were in fashion magazines this fall, you've probably asked yourself how you could ever wear that. Unlike Anna Dello Russo, most people don't wear clothes that scream fashion shower all that often!

I might have found the answer in the form of an embellished corset top. I mean, how good is this Balmain-inspired corset!? Imagine this top styled with a velvet blazer, a midi skirt or silk pants, with very few accessories (if any) in dark jewel tones and a natural hairstyle. In my opinion, it's a "pay a hundred, look like a million" kind of thing, and it would be perfect for the Holidays!

So, what do you think? Would you wear something Balmain inspired like this top, or do you think it's too much, even for a Holiday party?

2012 Holiday Gift Guide: Gifts Under 50$ for your Friends

36 Hours: 150 weekends in the USA & Canada // Flowering tea set // Christian Lacroix notebook // Dogeared canvas bag // Minimergency kit for men or women // Victoria's Secret the Sleepover cotton pajamas // Free People dog collar // Benefit's Sexy little stowaways // Cityslips clutch-friendly foldable flats // Honeydew chemise

As much as we love our friends, most of us have limited budgets for Holiday gifts. Anyone can find super cute things for less than 50$, but sometimes it's hard to find the right gift for the right person. When in doubt, I always get something that fits their personality or lifestyle.

These are a few ideas that can be ordered on the interwebs (very practical if you're a busy couch potatoe like me!). If they're still out of your budget, I recommend browsing Pinterest for thoughtful homemade gift ideas like handmade hot chocolate mix, peppermint lip balm or sugar scrub. Hmmm, actually there's so many great DIY ideas, they might get their own post pretty soon!

For more gift ideas, take a look at my other Holiday gift guides!
